
THE FUTURE OF UCHİSAR ENVISAGEDThe first workshop aiming the sustainable development of Uchisar as one of the most important residential areas of Cappadocia has started. The five days workshop by Uchisar Municipality, Kayseri Branches of Chamber of Architects of Turkey and Chamber of Urban Planners of Turkey takes place on July, 25-29, 2011. The workshop creates a common ground to produce designs on unique locality units of Uchisar. The cause of the workshop is to improve the efficiency of tourism in Uchisar through sustainability of authentic culture and natural/cultural landscape.
During the workshop, 25 students from architecture and urban planning departments of various universities around Turkey collaborates to create projects and designs to address tourism issues while considering the principles of sustainability and maintaining the potential values. Another concern for these solutions that are shaped around different themes is their applicability by the Municipality. The opening of the event took place in Bezirhane in Argos in Cappadocia, where the workshops continue with presentations and seminars on different themes and with hands on action in the Municipality building. The story of 15 year long restoration process of Uchisar village including Argos in Cappadocia presented by Gökşin Ilıcalı was among the most attention drawing presentations of the workshop so far. The design proceedings by students in Municipality building focusing on Uchisar city entrances, Cevizlibag entrance, and collocation of Tekeli Road, Castle Area and Disaster Houses Area are still in progress under the supervision of invited specialists and are supported by parallel conferences. |
